We are pleased that you are interested in the field of responsibility of the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) concerning "vehicle technology"!
Vehicle technology means the compliance with the minimum requirements with regard to road safety and environmental protection:
The KBA checks with the type approval procedure preventatively whether vehicles and vehicle parts are safe and ecologically compatible. If lacks of the vehicles nevertheless appear in the traffic, the KBA as a product security service provides together with the manufacturers a quick elimination of these defects.
The KBA is aware of the following tasks for the roadworthiness and the environmental protection of the vehicles taking part in the traffic:
- Type Approvals for vehicles and vehicle parts
- Services and Publications in the type approval procedure (TGV)
- Product safety and recalls of vehicles and vehicle parts
- Designation of Technical services
