Preconditions for designation
- Meeting of general criteria of EN ISO/IEC 17025/EN ISO/IEC 17020 or EN ISO/IEC 17021, of relevant for testing documents, and fulfilment of KBA requirements concerning type approval procedures
- Consistent really existing and efficient quality management system in the managing centre and possible branches
- Acceptance of Designation rules of the KBA

- The body to be designated has its managing centre in the European Economic Area
- Independence of applicant and used personnel
- In approval relevant requirements trained and internally authorised signatories for test reports (for test laboratories) or auditors (for certification bodies)
- Equipment necessary for testing (for test laboratories)
- Application of methods adequate to the state of the art, in particular concerning approval relevant requirements
