Designation and recognition

The main business of the Designation body is the designation of test laboratories and certification bodies as Technical service and the recognition of testing laboratories and certification bodies for the type approval procedure of the KBA on the basis of an accreditation or evaluation procedure. The designation includes the notification of the Technical service to the EC commission and the UN-ECE secretariat.

Monitoring and information

After designation and recognition for the type approval procedure, there will be monitoring of the Technical service. This monitoring is based on analysis of documents submitted to the KBA (e.g. test reports or CoP reports) and on direct monitoring of the Technical service’s competence.

Linked with monitoring, permanent information about current regulations in the type approval procedure is offered.

Co-operation

On the customer’s request, assessments for designation can take place, co-ordinated with assessments for a possibly existing accreditation.

Confirmation of expertise (Small series)

Expertise of manufacturers of vehicles produced in small series will be confirmed in accordance with a special procedure for test procedures regarding directive 2007/46/EC, appendix to annex IV part I (footnotes B and C) (see Application form "Small series", Annex 4) ( Application form "Small series" (rtf 710-KB)). Issuing this confirmation, the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt agrees that the tests provided for in the respective regulatory act can be carried out by the manufacturer himself.
