8th meeting of the advisory board of the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt

On 12 and 13 October 2022, the members met for the 8th meeting of the Advisory Council at the Fed-eral Motor Transport Authority (KBA). After the formal meeting on 12 October, the participants had the opportunity to visit the KBA test laboratory in Harrislee on 13 October.

The main topics of the advisory board meeting were as follows:

In addition to the digital offerings of the KBA's registers, reports were given on the current status of the regulation on autonomous driving, in particular the approval procedure at the KBA, as well as on the work results of the individual working groups.

The KBA also informed the advisory board about the current volume of enquiries from citizens and courts in connection with emissions from diesel engines and the project group set up to deal with them.

In addition, a report was given on software updates, in particular the different categories and the possi-bilities for approval.

Finally, the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) provided an insight into the cooperation between BASt and KBA, which aims to strengthen and complement the respective competences. The Advisory Council expressly welcomes the intensified cooperation.

On the following day the participants were given a guided tour of the KBA's Harrisleer test laboratory, where they were shown the infrastructure with its state-of-the-art measuring technology and air-conditioning and IT equipment. The advisory board was impressed by the high level of professionalism and emphasised the particular importance of independent testing and expertise, also in view of the con-stantly advancing technical developments.
