Downloading files / file formats

Prerequisite for reading PDF documents

To be able to read PDF documents, you first need suitable software. These so-called PDF viewers (PDF readers) are available as free software. They enable you to display and print PDF documents on all common operating systems. If such software is not yet installed on your computer, you can find out about various PDF viewers independent of providers here and download them free of charge: Wikipedia: Liste von PDF software or at www.pdfreaders.org.

If no PDF reader is installed on your computer, you can view PDF documents directly in the browser. To do so, click on the corresponding symbol of the file attachment. If your browser does not support the software, save the file on your hard drive and open the file from there.

To save a PDF file on your computer ('Download'), click on the file with the right mouse button and then click on "Save target as" with the left mouse button. Select the directory in which you want to save and then confirm with the 'Save' button.

If you would like to print a PDF file, open the corresponding file in your browser and then select the 'Print' option in your browser.

Why we provide PDF documents:

Compatibility

The electronic exchange of files in PDF format does not cause any compatibility problems.

This means: regardless of the operating system on your computer, our texts and forms can be easily displayed - and the high quality is maintained.

The original layout of the document is preserved. There are no layout problems in PDF. No shifting of tables, no unwanted change of font sizes, no unwanted page breaks, etc. The same applies to formatting, colours, fonts and images. They are displayed and printed as they were created in the original.

Search function

The search function in the PDF enables you to quickly find text passages, individual terms or even combinations of numbers in order to quickly find the source you are looking for within extensive texts.

File size

PDF files require a relatively small volume of data (bytes). Our PDF texts are usually compressed in such a way that they are sometimes even considerably smaller than the original files (Word files). This saves space on the hard disk and reduces the time needed to download the file.

Form fields

Our PDF forms can be filled out directly on the computer. If you make a mistake, you can correct it without any problems.

Security

External applications could cause damage from within a PDF file. Therefore, an automated security check is carried out before processing. Only after positive confirmation of the security query will the corresponding application be started. To further improve security, JavaScript is not allowed access to the file system.

Other file formats

We offer various information as RTF, XLS or ZIP files. These files will open in a new window!

  • RTF files can be opened with Microsoft Word.
  • XLS files can be opened with Microsoft Excel.
  • To unpack the compressed ZIP files you need an additional programme such as WinZip www.winzip.com (Windows).
  • To download TIF files: When saving the files to your computer, please change the file format from "*.tiff" to "*.tif".

Accessibility

Navigation options

The pages have a uniform structure, with navigation and content divided into separate sections.

There are hidden jump labels right at the beginning of the pages which you can use to jump directly to the content, main menu or search.

Some browsers support keyboard shortcuts (access keys). You can use a simple key combination to jump to the most important services on offer (Internet Explorer: ALT+Accesskey+ENTER / Mozilla Firefox: ALT+SHIFT+Accesskey).

The following key combinations are supported on our pages:

accesskey="0": Internal link to the homepage
accesskey="1": Internal link to the help page
accesskey="4": Internal link to the glossary/encyclopedia
accesskey="6": Internal link to the general overview (table of contents)
accesskey="7": Internal link to advanced search
accesskey="9": Internal link to the contact page

In addition, the table of contents provides an overview of the topics and sub-topics offered.

Font size

You can change the font size of our website using your browser. In Internet Explorer, for example, you can do this via the menu 'View', sub-item 'Font size'. In Firefox, you can change the font size via the menu 'View', sub-item 'Font size', 'Increase' or 'Decrease'.

Search

We offer two search functions on our website:

  • The Simple Search and an Advanced Search.
  • The Simple Search is located on the left-hand side below the navigation area. You can enter one or more terms directly in the "Search term" field. The search result is displayed in a new window.

In the Advanced Search you have additional search or sorting options:

  • Sorting the search result by relevance or by date.
  • Restriction of the search result

    • to a specific period of time
    • to a specific document type, for example, you can search here for people, job offers or simple standard articles
    • to a predefined main topic.

By entering several search terms in the search text and a (+) between the search terms, you limit the search (AND link).

The wildcards (*) for any sequence of letters and (?) for a single letter are permitted in the entry.

The tilde symbol (~) at the end of a single word supports the indistinct search.

Print function

The contents of the website are optimised for printing.

If JavaScript is activated, there is a "Print page" button at the bottom of the page. Clicking on the button opens the print dialogue in a new window.

If JavaScript is deactivated, you can access this dialogue box via the menu 'File', sub-item 'Print' (or via the key combination <Ctrl>+ <P>.
