Barrier-free

More than seven million people in Germany live with a handicap (Source: DESTATIS (Federal Statistical Office)). These people use the internet more intensively than the average citizen. This is the result of a survey conducted by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology as part of the campaign ,Internet without barriers'. However, a large percentage of handicapped people are dependant on special technical facilities in order to operate internet pages and to understand their contents. We have willingly taken up the challenge to make the KBA's internet presence gradually barrier-free and to create easy access to our information for everyone. Two nominations for a BIENE (‘Barrier-free internet enables new experiences’), awarded by the
"Digital Opportunities Foundation" for barrier-free internet contributions, are the result of our successful efforts. We will continue to pursue our goal of a barrier-free internet presence with special awareness of the
Equality for Handicapped Persons Act (BGG) and the Barrier-free Information Technology Regulation (BITV).

Have you encountered any barriers?

We are glad to receive tips and ideas, especially from handicapped people, and would like to thank contributors cordially.
