Subsequent activation of automated / fully automated driving functions
Pursuant to § 1h (2) of the “Straßenverkehrsgesetz (StVG)”, the KBA shall define specific technical requirements for automated and fully automated driving functions that can be activated subsequently to the registration of the motor vehicle. In the context of the approval process, the respective driving functions are checked in accordance with the corresponding catalogue of requirements. The catalogues of requirements are published by the KBA in accordance with § 1h (2) sentence 3 StVG and can be accessed below.
Preconditions
- The initial assessment of the manufacturer including the report on CoP with the additional module for fully automated driving is available to the KBA.
- Application form for approval of a driving function, which can be activated after registration of the motor vehicle
- Supplementary application documents according to the corresponding catalogue of requirements for the automated driving function
The complete application documents can be submitted to the KBA via the E-Typ procedure.
Automated Valet Parking - AVP
- This catalogue of requirements applies to motor vehicles, which are capable of performing the driving task without driver in relation to parking and manoeuvring operations (level 4)
- Parking and manoeuvring operations may be performed in publicly accessible parking areas defined by the manufacturer, which are separated from the public street traffic by structural or other devices and which can only be accessed and exited by vehicles via separate entrances and departures.
- This catalogue of requirements does not apply to applications for driverless parking and manoeuvring in parking areas along roads (parking strips, parking bays, parking pockets, etc.) or at the edge of the road
