The Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) notifies other European Community Type Approval authorities on Type Approvals. These notifications are exchanged in mutual interest to support individual sovereign responsibilities for vehicle registration and supervision.
The KBA also supports officially recognized organisations for periodical technical inspections of vehicles according to § 29 Straßenverkehrs-Zulassungs-Ordnung (StVZO) (StVZO - German law for authorization of vehicles for road traffic) in their main inspection tasks and in the determination of the factual situation according to § 19 of the above regulation (subsequent installation or attachment of parts in or to a vehicle) on approvals and permits that have been given (so-called type sheets).
